Board of Directors
The elected Board of Directors governs the Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association. CIWA's Board is composed of not less than nine (9) and not more than fifteen (15) full Board members. A minimum of 2/3 of the Board of Directors must be immigrants to Canada. The Chief Executive Officer attends all Board meetings but does not vote and acts as an advisor to the Board and all Board committees. The Board employs consensus-based decision-making. In the past year, the Board has updated its policies, created efficient operating procedures, and strengthened the governance framework for the organization.

CIWA’s Board of Directors Recruitment
As part of CIWA’s Board recruitment, all individuals who are interested in serving on the Board of Directors are first invited to volunteer for one year with one (or more) Committees. CIWA’s Board currently has 4 Standing committees including Governance, Human Resources, Finance, and Fund Development.
For our 2021 Board recruitment, we are specifically seeking individuals who are committed to playing a leadership role in Calgary’s immigrant serving sector with professional experience in any of the following areas:
- fund development (marketing, fundraising and/or government funding)
- risk management
- privacy and compliance
- human resources and/or employment law
- civic affiliations/networks within Alberta
- real estate leasing/development
