Meet Elselita. She is currently a volunteer for the Filipino Community Development Program.
Elselita (Elsie) came to Canada as a live-in caregiver in 2008 and she continues to work for the same family on a part-time basis. She hopes to continue working with children in the future and enjoys spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter.
A friend connected Elsie with CIWA so that she could volunteer for the Filipino Community Development Program. As a volunteer, provides pivotal administrative support to the program and assists in a variety of ways with Family Reunification workshops. She also facilitates the Home Alone Safety workshop with children ages 6-12. Elsie comes from a family of teachers, thus, it thrills her to be able to facilitate fun and meaningful experiences for the children through a variety of activities and workshops.
Elsie finds it incredibly fulfilling to volunteer at CIWA. She loves connecting with others by getting to know them and supporting them in fulfilling their social and emotional needs. Elsie loves her volunteer work so much that giving up her free time is rewarding for her since she knows she is making a difference in people’s lives. She particularly enjoys the challenge of utilizing a diverse range of skills and is constantly learning and applying new skills as she continues her volunteer journey.

CIWA staff are proud to honour Elsie as Volunteer of the Month because of her commitment and dedication to serve CIWA’s clients. She is punctual, responsible, and has impressive organizational and time management skills. Elsie is an incredibly friendly and enthusiastic person who willingly gives her time to volunteer her efforts in performing administrative duties such as filing, entering data, conducting follow up phone calls and post surveys as well as facilitating workshops and outreach events.
Elsie feels most happy when she’s in the kitchen cooking up a storm or baking some delicious treats. She also enjoys crocheting, reading, and staying active.
