Training for Translators and Interpreters
Program Description
You speak more than one language. That is not just a talent. It is a professional asset.
This free 14-week full-time hybrid program is designed for immigrant women ready to turn multilingual ability into a paid, respected profession in Canada.
The program runs Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with three intakes each year: April, August, and November.
Eligibility Clients
- Immigrant women who are permanent residents or Convention refugees
- Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 or higher
- Women with Post-secondary education
- Proficient in more than one language
- Participants who can commit to a full-time, in-person program for 4 months
What You’ll Learn
- 14 weeks of training in class
- 2 weeks of work practicum
- Learn from a community interpreter trainer and experienced translator
- Prepare for the Interpreter proficiency test
(CILISAT) and the Community Interpreter Exam (CI) - Guidance on starting your own freelance business y Hands-on training with Wordfast (CAT tool)
- Gain basic translation skills: translation strategies, glossary building, proofreading techniques
- Develop your job search skills and learn about starting your own business Learn to use Microsoft Office and translation software
Certifications You’ll Earn
- Community Interpreter Language and Interpreting Skills Assessment Tool (CILISAT)
- Community Interpreter (CI)
