Culinary Skills Training

Program Description

This free 12-week, full-time program prepares immigrant women for entry-level careers in the food industry as cooks, prep cooks, or kitchen helpers. You will gain hands-on kitchen experience, strengthen your workplace English, and develop essential skills in food safety, teamwork, and communication.

The program includes practical culinary training, industry-recognized certification, and job preparation support, including resume building, interview preparation, and one-on-one job search guidance to help you succeed in the Canadian workforce. The program runs Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with three intakes each year: April, August, and November.

As our last intake graduated on July 10, 2026, 50% of participants secured employment by graduation day providing a 100% confidence booster to launch your path in Canada.

Eligibility Clients

  • Immigrant women who are permanent residents or Convention refugees
  • Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5-6 or higher
  • Participants who can commit to a full-time, in-person program for 3 months

  • Clients are trained to work in restaurants in line with Canadian health and safety expectations
  • Computer skills training included
  • Individual job search support available for all participants
  • Follow-up support after program completion
  • Referrals to other CIWA programs help participants access additional support services
  • Participants may be reimbursed for childcare and transportation costs
