Board of Directors

An elected Board of Directors governs the Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association. CIWA’s board is composed of not less than nine (9) and not more than fifteen (15) full Board members. A minimum of 75% of Board members must be foreign-born. A maximum of three Reserve Board members maybe elected, who attend all meetings, but have no right to vote. These Reserve Board members may be invited to take office as Director in the event of a vacancy on the Board of Directors during any given year. The Executive Director is an ex-officio, non-voting member of the Board of Directors. The Board employs consensus-based decision-making. In the past five years, the Board has updated its policies, created efficient operating procedures, and strengthened the governance framework for the organization.

The Board of Directors has the following standing committees:

  • Finance
  • Fund Development
  • Human Resources
  • Self-Governance
  • Recruitment
  • Communication

The Board holds the Annual General Meeting of CIWA in June of each year.
