Volunteer Training and Community Development
Volunteer Program
The mission of this program is to empower immigrant women through volunteer and to recruit volunteers that support CIWA's programs and services. Immigrant women have the opportunity to gain valuable Canadian work experience, and interact with Canadian-born women.
The Arts and Crafts Market
This program builds on the skills and talents of immigrant women in the areas of arts, crafts, cultural and entrepreneurial skills by engaging them in creative activities. The products created are sold at community events, festivals and trade shows. Volunteers meet weekly to make the products and profits from the sales support other CIWA programs.
Senior Immigrant Women Take Arts and Crafts on the Road
This new initiative, funded by the New Horizons for Seniors Program, brings together senior immigrant women of diverse backgrounds wanting to learn and share arts and crafts skills. In the first stage of the project, participants will share and learn arts and crafts skills, and enhance their conversational English. In the second stage of the project, participants will lead crafts activities in the community.
