Find Me a Home

This project focuses on securing affordable and accessible housing for low-income immigrant families. CIWA supports families by providing first language support, advocating on behalf of our clients, providing clients with information about available resources, accessing emergency funds and assistance in searching for homes.

Safe Haven

Status of Women Canada Women's Community Fund has funded this program which addresses the needs of immigrant women arriving to Calgary as secondary migrants and/or temporary foreign workers. We provide essential services in the areas of housing and employment as well as emergency services to immigrant women and children fleeing domestic violence.

New Friends and Neighbourhood Groups

Immigrant and refugee women from diverse backgrounds come together in community locations to make friends, share experiences, practice conversational English and learn about available community resources. Participants gain confidence, and create support networks in their communities.

Diabetes Prevention Project

Funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada, "Living Healthy: Education and Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes Among Immigrant Families", educates immigrant women and their families about the risk of type 2 diabetes and preventative measures they can take through healthy eating and exercise. Classes include education sessions, healthy cooking and grocery shopping classes and family exercise.

Breast Health Awareness Project

Funded by the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Prairies/NWT Region, the Breast Health Awareness project provides culturally sensitive education about breast health and breast cancer to immigrant women. Volunteers are recruited and trained as mentors in order to educate immigrant women in their respective communities. Individual support and additional assistance is also provided to immigrant women who want to make screening appointments and/or need to access other health related services in the community.

Legal Clinic

A weekly legal clinic is offered in partnership with Calgary Legal Guidance. Immigrant and refugee women and their families receive free family or immigration legal advice from qualified volunteer lawyers.
